About
My name is Christy Smith, and I am a Certified Nutrition Therapist, in pursuit of my Master Nutrition Therapy degree. I started Whole to Healthy as a way to motivate and inspire people to take back their own health. Not to follow the well beaten path. Challenge the medical community. Listen to their own instincts. And most importantly, I think....to take back their kitchens by learning to cook whole, healthy meals for themselves.
After being diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis, an autoimmune thyroid disorder, about 15 years ago, I have struggled with my weight. I resigned myself to the fact that I'd just keep gaining weight and never be able to lose it because of my disease. Then I was introduced to a weight loss program that changed my life. After just a few changes in my diet, I began to lose weight, feel better, *and* lower my thyroid medication.
That was huge.
I was so enamored by this program that I took a job with them working as an instructor and center director. I got to work closely with other people in search of various forms of health and watched as each one left the program lighter, less medicated, more energetic, and inspired to continue their healthy journey.
Several years, two kids and some stressful, life altering moments later, and my weight began to creep back on. I had begun the painfully hard to change habit of emotional eating. I no longer knew how to just eat healthy. I didn't really even care about being healthy. But some crazy persistent inner voice kept nagging at me, and I took unbelievably teeny tiny baby steps and eventually found my way out of that deep hole.
Last year, I decided once and for all to pursue my passion for nutrition by joining the Nutrition Therapy Institute so that I could again help others find their true potential, but to also share my story of struggle and strength to hopefully inspire others to dig deep and just keep searching for their own healthy path.
